The Creative Class de MMXIV es una selección de personas influyentes de la actualidad dentro de la industria creativa, compartiendo sus pensamientos, reflexiones y comentarios sobre su propia creatividad, la industria y cómo la tecnología está cambiando todo.

En 2002 Richard Florida escribió acerca de un grupo llamado The Creative Class, que constituiría la fuerza motriz para el desarrollo social y económico de nuestras ciudades post-industriales. Un grupo de personas formado por los trabajadores del conocimiento, diseñadores, intelectuales y diversos tipos de artistas. Este grupo y su trabajo representa un cambio importante en la forma en que nuestro mundo se está desarrollando.

Al mismo tiempo, la democratización impulsada por la tecnología de la cultura que hemos sido testigos en las últimas décadas ha traído consigo una era de libertad sin precedentes para las industrias creativas, brindando muchos desafíos y oportunidades. Muchos de los creativos influyentes de hoy en día, ya sea músicos, diseñadores, o los científicos, son personas que se han adaptado con inteligencia a la tecnología y adoptado nuevas formas de crear y compartir su ideas originales.

The Creative Class #1 – Damon Albarn

Damon Albarn was born in 1968 and grew up in Leytonstone, East London. He is one of Britain’s most iconic musicians, best known for being the frontman of Blur as well as the co-founder of the virtual band Gorillaz. Albarn’s latest project Everyday Robots, his solo debut, has just been released.

The Creative Class #2 – Tom Dixon

Tom Dixon was born 1959 in Sfax, Tunisia. He is an industrial designer and currently the Creative Director of the brand ‘Tom Dixon’ specializing in lighting, furniture and accessories. His work has been aquired by renowned museums around the world including the V&A, Museum of Modern Art New York and Centre Pompidou in Paris.

The Creative Class #3 – Marc Hare

Marc Hare is a British designer who runs the eponymous English shoe label. After being inspired in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Spain, his first designs landed in stores in 2009. Since 2012 Hare has opened shop in Mayfair and his collections are sold across stores such as Harrods and Selfridges.

The Creative Class #4 – Fred Deakin

Fred Deakin is a British designer, educator and musician. He is part of the electronic music duo Lemon Jelly, and was one of the founders of design firm Airside. Since 2012 Deakin has set up a new venture called Fred & Company, dedicated to artistic and interactive projects. He currently teaches on the MA Communication Design course at Central Saint Martins, London.

The Creative Class ep. #5 – Stefan Sagmeister

Stefan Sagmeister was born in 1962 in Bregenz, Austria. He is a New York-based designer and typographer an co-founded the globally renowned design firm Sagmeister & Walsh with Jessica Walsh. Sagmeister has won an accolade of awards and was a long-standing artistic collaborator with musicians David Byrne and Lou Reed.
